Sun Moon Lake is located at Nantou County, Central Taiwan. This is the biggest lake in Taiwan. The name of this lake ‘Sun Moon Lake’ because its sun-shaped and moon-shaped halves. The southern part of Kung-Hua island in the lake is shaped like a moon and the northern part is shaped like a sun. The lake surrounded by the green mountains. The view is very natural, picturesque and romantic. Sunrises and sunsets on the lake are especially brilliant, and a veil of fog hovering on the surface is a common sight at dawn. Perfect tourist destination for anyone who loves the calm water and natural scenery. The passion of the local Thao indigenous people also make this lake become one of the best tourist destination which worth great experience.
At the lake side there is a big temple, so many people pray in this temple. According to the budhist religion and belief, you can ask and send wishes to God, for example wish for health, prosperous, happiness, good career, friendship, boyfriend/girlfriend, husband/wife, harmonius family etc. So you can see so many wishes written in something which has shape like a very small lantern. The position of the temple quite higher than the lake, so you can see and enjoy the view of the lake from the top.
You can also enjoy the beautifull and the charming of the lake from the other lake side. There is an outdoor hall with unique and sophisticated architecture. They tried to give satisfaction and unforgettable or best memorable moment to visitors, that’s why they held so many routine festival, such as fireworks festival, music festival, Thao harvest festival, aboriginal cherry blossom festival, etc. So before you go there, it’s better if you ask tourist center to get information about the festival schedule that they have.
You can choose different ways to visit Sun Moon Lake by boat, car, bicycle or foot. Using bicycle is the most interesting, you can easily find bicycle for rent there. Start at 6 o’clock in the morning will give you the perfect view and you can see a beautifull sunrise. Give your time to inhale and exhale the fresh air, then you will never forget the lake. Don’t worry about car and motorcycle because they provide the lane for bicycle, it’s very comfort and safety. There’s also some people enjoy the lake by fishing.
Visit the other side of Sun Moon lake by boat and then walk around to see their traditional food, traditional drink and traditional handicraft, etc is a good choice. You also can find the building designed like a big boat. They put plantation at the lake near to harbour, may be to keep the green lake and to keep the water from polution. Each area are very clean, they have a good habit, they throw the garbage into the available trash bin. Taiwanese didn’t like a spicy food, so most of the food that they offer is not spicy, but you still can find the spicy food there, very spicy.
The Taiwanese are very kind, they give a great greeting to the visitor through traditional Taiwanese dance. They also invite the visitors who wants to join them. There’s also some community gathering to do meditation or pray face to the lake. This trip show us how rich their culture. If you eager to explore more, you can climb to the top and at the same time you can enjoy fresh air and do same exercise thats good for health. At the top, there’s a temple and the view was amazing.
